The diaries of popular libraries of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya began in 1920, the year in which Jordi Rubió i Balaguer agreed to the position of director of the network. They were born as an internal management document, to write down the daily work at the library: the log book, the different tasks performed, inspection visits, etc. Sometimes, however, the librarians, with their personal style, described the historical episodes that occurred on a day-to-day, becoming these documents a testament to the life of this important period, from the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, the advent of the Second Republic, the Civil War, the Republican defeat and the entrance of Franco’s troops with the subsequently Dictatorship. As a result, 56 volumes of manuscripts and diaries of 10 libraries in the province of Barcelona between the years 1920 and 1964.
